German Bense was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in June of 1963. In 1981 he start his professional musician carrer as a jazz bassist and guitarist. Soon, by that way, he discover the bossa nova. His first songs were written in 1984. With them he begun his experience of fusion of the brazilian music with the afro-uruguian music. At the same time he begun playing brazilian music in differents Montevideo's night clubs. This intimate bound public-artist capture him from the beginings and although he play in theaters too, the night was the natural plays for his music.

During 14 years uninterrupted as night bossa nova own songs and covers performer, he had to leave his activities for personal reasons in June 1995.

This retirement, apparently definitive, gave an unexpected turn. Surprise, in August 2000, German Bense inaugurates his music site at mp3.com. This fact means the first stage of his return to the professional musician activity, after several years of absence. Given the nature of the new technologies, Bense can feature for the first time his old recordings (record between 1989 and 1999) in an international context. Until that then, this artist had remained "isolated" within the local scene of his country (Uruguay), whose population does not surpass the 3 million people, and whose musical market isn't the ideal for the German Bense's music: really, before the on-line music technology appareance, German Bense's opportunities were very little. Since August 2000, many things have changed for German Bense. The success of his music at his mp3.com site encourage him to record a new album: " Opus Bossa Nova ", that is published in mp3.com in October 2001, and which obtains great acceptance by Bossa Nova and Latin Jazz fans from around the world. The repertoire of this album is formed with three of his old bossa Nova songs ("Barco sin puerto", "Valizas" and "Piensa"), and five new bossa nova songs writed during 2001 ("What kind of love", "Crazy Science Fiction World", "A dream that to fulfill", "As simple as a star" and "Between the sand and the sea"). " Opus Bossa Nova " marks the Bense's second step of his return to the stage; in this case, not sent only to the local scope, but rather, directed to the bossa nova lovers anywhere in the world. Finally, the success of " Opus Bossa Nova " impels German Bense to return to the live performaces during 2002 (the third step of his return), in the local scene as in the international scene. Right now, Bense is working in his new 2002 full bossa nova album.
